Privacy Without the Maintenance

You love the durability of a chain link fence, but you don't love the lack of privacy. We have the solution.

At Les Clôtures Duratech, we specialize in installing Privacy Slats (Lattes) for residential and commercial properties in South Shore Montreal. By inserting durable PVC strips vertically into the chain link mesh, we transform an open fence into a solid visual barrier, blocking up to 90% of the view while maintaining airflow.

Why Choose Privacy Slats?

1. Instant Privacy & Security

Stop neighbors and passersby from looking into your yard, patio, or hot tub area. Slats create a “solid wall” effect that significantly increases privacy and discourages theft by blocking the view of your belongings.

2. The Budget-Friendly Alternative

A privacy slat system is significantly more affordable than building a wood or composite wall. You get the strength of steel with the coverage of a panel fence.

3. Zero Maintenance

Unlike wood, PVC slats never need painting, staining, or sealing. They are UV-resistant, fade-resistant, and built to survive Quebec winters without cracking.

4. Aesthetics & Options

Available in various colours to match your landscape.

  • Black: The most popular modern choice.
  • Green: Blends seamlessly with hedges and lawns.
  • White / Taupe / Brown: To match your home's exterior.

Our Installation Process

We ensure your privacy fence stands straight and strong.
1.
Consultation: We help you choose the right slat color and fence height.
2.
Safety First (Info-Excavation): We submit the request to locate underground utilities. You (the client) act as the applicant for the municipal construction permit.
3.
Foundation: We drill deep post holes and pour concrete.
4.
Curing Phase: We allow the concrete to cure for 14 days. Note: Privacy fences catch more wind than open mesh. This curing time is critical to prevent the fence from leaning during storms.
5.
Installation: We install the chain link mesh first, then slide the privacy slats vertically into the weave, locking them in place.
6.
Final Walkthrough: We review the finish and ensure the site is clean.

What Our Clients Say

“We wanted privacy for our backyard without spending a fortune on wood. The black slats look sleek and give us the coverage we needed.”
“The team was professional. They explained why the concrete needed to cure for 2 weeks because of the wind load on the slats. The result is rock solid.”
“Great communication. They handled the Info-Excavation request and guided us on the city permit. The installation was fast once the posts were set.”

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Yes! If your existing posts are sturdy and straight, we can retro-fit your fence with new mesh and slats, or insert slats into existing mesh (depending on the condition of the wire).
How much visibility do slats actually block?
High-quality privacy slats typically provide 75% to 95% blockage, depending on the slat width and the mesh diamond size. From a distance, it looks opaque.
Do privacy slats make the fence vulnerable to wind?
Yes, they increase the "wind load" significantly because wind cannot pass through easily. That is why Les Clôtures Duratech insists on a 14-day concrete curing period and uses heavy-duty posts to ensure your fence doesn't lean over time.
What colours are available?
The most common are Black, Green, White, Brown, and Taupe. We can bring samples during our site visit to help you decide.
Do I need a permit?
Yes. Adding privacy slats changes the nature of the fence (it becomes a visual wall). Some cities have different rules for open vs. closed fences. You are responsible for obtaining the city permit, but we provide all the technical details you need.
Are privacy slats recommended for pool enclosures?
Generally, no. Privacy slats reduce visibility into the water, which is an important safety factor around a pool (supervising children, etc.). In addition, pool fence requirements vary by municipality. For pool areas, we typically recommend compliant options that preserve good visibility (e.g., ornamental fencing) - and we’ll guide you based on your city’s rules.
