Anti-Ram Protection & Access Control

In today's commercial environment, defining the line between vehicles and pedestrians is critical for safety and liability. Security Bollards provide a physical and visual barrier that prevents accidental damage to storefronts and restricts unauthorized vehicle entry.

Les Clôtures Duratech specializes in the installation of heavy-duty steel bollards for commercial, industrial, and municipal properties in South Shore Montreal. Whether you need "Anti-Ram" protection for a warehouse or removable posts for a multi-use parking lot, we install them with deep concrete footings for maximum stability.

Our Bollard Solutions

1. Fixed Security Bollards (Permanent)

Maximum Impact Protection. These are permanently anchored into the ground using concrete. They are the standard solution for protecting buildings from vehicle impact.

  • Applications: Storefront protection, gas meters, electrical transformers, warehouse corners, and pedestrian zones.
  • Construction: Heavy-gauge steel pipe filled with concrete (optional) and often covered with a decorative yellow or black sleeve for visibility.

2. Removable Bollards

Flexible Access Control. Need to block traffic but allow delivery trucks or emergency vehicles to pass? Removable bollards lock into a ground sleeve but can be lifted out when needed.

  • Applications: Fire lanes, multi-use event spaces, employee and clients parking areas and driveways, and loading docks.
  • Mechanism: Simple internal locking mechanism; remove the post and place it aside to open the lane.

3. Surface-Mounted vs. In-Ground

  • In-Ground (Deep Set): The strongest option. The post is buried deep in concrete. Recommended for crash protection.
  • Surface-Mounted (Bolt Down): Bolted to existing concrete. Good for visual deterrence in low-speed areas (like parking garage interiors).

Why Install Bollards?

Asset Protection

Prevents "pedal error" accidents where cars crash into storefront glass or building corners.

Pedestrian Safety

Creates a safe zone for customers walking near traffic lanes.

Theft Prevention

Blocks "ram-raiding" attempts at retail locations.

Traffic Management

Clearly defines where delivery trucks can and cannot go.

Our Installation Process

Impact resistance depends on the foundation.
1.
Site Assessment: We evaluate the traffic flow and soil conditions to recommend the right bollard type.
2.
Safety First (Info-Excavation): We handle the underground utility check to ensure safe digging. You (the client) handle the municipal permit application.
3.
Excavation / Core Drilling:
  • Dirt/Asphalt: We dig a deep footing.
  • Concrete: We use a diamond core drill to create a precise hole in existing concrete pads.
4.
Installation & Concrete: We set the steel posts and pour high-strength concrete.
5.
Curing: For crash-rated installations, we allow the concrete to cure for approximately 14 days to achieve full strength.
6.
Finishing: We install the decorative covers (sleeves) or apply final paint.

What Our Clients Say

“We needed bollards in front of our new glass showroom. Duratech handled the core drilling cleanly and the yellow covers look professional.”
“The removable bollards work perfectly for our delivery lane. Drivers can take them out in seconds, but they are sturdy enough to stop unauthorized cars.”
“Professional installation. They managed the Info-Excavation check and explained the concrete curing process clearly.”

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

A visual bollard might be bolted down and creates a psychological barrier. A "Crash" or "Anti-Ram" bollard is buried deep in concrete and reinforced to physically stop a moving vehicle.
Do I need a permit?
Often yes, especially if near a public street or sidewalk. You are responsible for the city permit, but we provide the specifications.
Can you install bollards in existing concrete?
Yes. We use diamond core drilling equipment to cut a clean circle in your existing sidewalk or slab, excavate the soil underneath, and pour a new structural footing.
Do you offer decorative covers?
Yes. The most common are Yellow (for visibility) or Black (for aesthetics). We also offer architectural covers to match building designs.
What affects the installation timeline for security bollards?
Timelines depend on site conditions, the bollard type, and permitting requirements. Ground conditions and permit timelines can affect the installation schedule. A site assessment helps confirm the installation steps.
